Do I need to install a JRE?
Go to here and see the test. If the test recommends you to download the latest JRE, please do so. You need JRE version 1.4.x or later to run DiveLog, and version 1.5.x is recommended for better speed.

The installer freezes/crashes. What is wrong?
Are you running Windows Vista or Windows 7? If so, expand the ZIP file content to the folder of your choice. Then go to that folder and right-click on the installer file and select Properties. That will open up a Properties window. Go to the Compatibility Mode tab. Choose the Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click OK. Now the installer should work properly.
If not running Windows Vista:
1) Make sure you have enough disk space for the install.
2) Try turning off any anti-virus, PCanywhere, NetZip, Internet Security or scanner software you may be running. (It would be wise to unplug your Internet connection if you turn off your firewall.) Some of these programs are known to cause problems with InstallAnywhere installers on some systems.
3) If running MS Windows, you may need to update your DirectX to at least 8.1 to correct the problem. Most machines that have problems with this have DirectX 7.0 installed. You can download the latest DirectX here.

"The file MSVCR71.dll is missing?
This is not directly related to GMP itself. You can download the missing file for free at various websites. At the time of writing, this resource works to resolve this problem.

"The magic number did not match"?
This indicates that the installer was not downloaded properly. Please download it again.

"Runtime violation" at installation?
Make sure the JRE is installed properly. Test it here.

"Fatal Application Error - Unable to launch Java Application. Unable to locate the application's 'main' class."?
Make sure the JRE from Sun Microsystems is installed properly. Test it here.

The program does not start and no error message is shown.
Have you installed Quicktime after installing Java? Quicktime has its own version of java and it can cause problems. Please uninstall Quicktime and see if that solves the problem. Quicktime can then be re-installed but ensure that the option to install java with Quicktime is unchecked.

I have discovered an error in the program. How can I report this?
If the error is fairly obvious and easy to locate, it will likely suffice to just describe the error in an e-mail to .
If the cause of the error is not obvious (e.g. if the program somehow would freeze up), please locate the files error.txt and output.txt in DiveLog's system folder (after a standard installation on an English Windows system this would be C:\Program Files\DiveLog\system\). Copy the contents of these files to the e-mail that you send to the address above. Try to describe as carefully as you can where and when the error appeared.
