Mexico Cave Exploration - December 2008

GUE members Alex Alvarex, Franco Attolini and Beto Nava conducted another week of Exploration in the Aktun-Hu Cave System in Mexico/Q.Roo. The exploration efforts were focused in Cenote Fenomeno, the farthest upstream entrance in Aktun-Hu.

A couple of small leads were extended in the NW direction. A new cave segment was located using a second entrance very close to the main cenote. This area was surveyed to approximate 2000ft of penetration and several new leads in this tunnel are waiting to be explored in 2009.

After the December exploration efforts Aktun-Hu is now 81.5K feet long, becoming the 4th longest underwater cave in Q.Roo.
