Revisiting: Mouthpiece Retaining Strap Survey Results
Gag Me With A Strap? Here are the results of our mouthpiece retaining strap survey for CCR divers.

Last month we ran a package of articles regarding the safety benefits of mouthpiece retaining straps(MRS) for rebreather diving and training agencies policies on their use. The results are in! Here’s are the responses from 141 rebreather divers afflicted with BSAC, GUE, IANTD, IART, NAUI, PADI, RAID, SSI, and TDI. Surprising given the lack of promotion, just over 30% of divers reported using MRS, about the same percentage as those who said it was presented as a safety option, or requirement, in their CCR course. As noted in the agency link above, the consensus statement from Rebreather Forum 3.0 was that MRS deserved further research. We will revisit this issue.
