Underwater Cave Survey

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?

Cave survey and cartography are highly important aspects of cave exploration and are useful for all advanced cave divers. In this special GUE class, divers will learn all the required skills to conduct a full survey of the cave starting from an in-water survey to drafting a map of the cave.

During the class, team-based survey procedures and dive planning are introduced together with additional tools and specialized equipment.

Who Is It For?

Many divers who have undertaken GUE’s survey class have been involved in exciting cave exploration projects all over the world. At a minimum, this course adds special skills and knowledge to the repertoire of any skilled diver.

This advanced Underwater Cave Survey class is available to experienced Cave 2 divers.

What Will I Learn?

Course outcomes include, but are not limited to: competency in the basic principles of underwater cave survey; implementation of a defined team approach to underwater survey data collection which prepares an experienced cave diver to productively assist in a coordinated cave project; and an introduction to cartography methods.

Applicants for a GUE Underwater Cave Survey program must:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.

SCIENTIFIC DIVER

Project diving is a cornerstone of GUE activities and a reason why many decide to pursue scuba diving. GUE cooperates with many scientific research centers globally where archaeologists, biologists, hydrologists, and geologists benefit from the competence of GUE trained divers while conducting underwater research.

GUE’s Scientific Diver Level 1 course prepares divers to act as members of scientific diving teams using proper equipment and techniques, and to understand legal aspects and responsibilities relevant to scientific diving.

PHOTOGRAMMETRY DIVER

Modern technology combined with skilled and competent divers is a great mix to achieve unprecedented outcomes from underwater imaging. Meticulous and proper documentation of a dive site or submerged artifacts can be rewarded by a stunning 3D modelling.

GUE’s Photogrammetry Diver course is designed to introduce divers to the skills and procedures for using underwater photogrammetry to create digital 3D models.
